Sustainable Buildings
Over the past decade, sustainability in North America has taken a surge in the construction sector. As carbon emissions have continued to rise, it became evident that there was a pressing need to develop a more sustainable construction sector. Building performance alone accounts for 28 % of North America’s global emission output. The move towards sustainable buildings is being advanced due to national and local carbon reduction targets, higher energy prices, and depleting resources. North America is changing rapidly due to population growth, which makes the need for sustainable solutions to the way we build even more important.
In the U.S., The American Rescue Plan will build, rehabilitate and retrofit affordable, accessible, energy efficient, and resilient housing, commercial buildings, schools, and child care facilities all over the country, while also improving the nation’s federal facilities. Canada aims to have all existing buildings be net zero by 2050 and all new buildings to be net zero by 2030.
